Emergency Earthquake Appeal

The situation

On 31st August, a devastating magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Afghanistan's eastern provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar and Laghman. So far, it is estimated that over 2200 people have lost their lives, and over 3600 people have been injured. However, as response teams and communities work hard to reach those in the most remote areas, this staggering death toll is expected to rise even further.

How is Afghanaid helping men, women and children impacted by the Afghanistan earthquake?

Afghanaid has dispatched a team to urgently deliver essential drinking water, food and shelter, as well as tools to assist in the recovery efforts. We are coordinating with partners to assess further needs and ensure humanitarian assistance continues to reach those that need it most, especially affected families in particularly remote districts. We are asking for your help to urgently provide:

• Emergency food parcels;
• Shelter assistance;
• Cash assistance, so that families can afford urgent necessities, medical care and materials to rebuild;
• Hygiene equipment so they can stay clean and healthy;
• Vital household items many will have lost needed to cook, clean and stay warm;
• Longer-term support to help families rebuild their lives and protect themselves better against future disasters.
