Afghanistan is facing a continuing severe humanitarian crisis, with 23.7 million people in need of assistance.

Since 2021, a complex and dire humanitarian emergency has taken its grip on Afghanistan.

Three years of successive drought and economic collapse has driven acute hunger. An estimated 15.3 million people - that's 35% of the population - currently face crisis levels of food insecurity, yet funding shortfalls have forced some UN agencies, such as the World Food Programme, to cut down assistance.

On top of this, there are increasing restrictions on women and girls, 1.7 million Afghans face forced deportation from Pakistan, and the impacts of climate change as well as devastating natural disasters - such as the October earthquakes in Herat - all threaten to make the situation even harder still.

Since 1983, we've been working with millions of families in Afghanistan so that they can change their futures for good.

For more than forty years, Afghanaid has worked with some of the most underserved and marginalised people in Afghanistan, and now delivers services directly and through partners in 13 provinces in the country.

With our community-led approach and 97% Afghan team, we build thriving livelihoods, improve women's economic inclusion, enable communities to adapt to climate change, improve access to basic services, and provide emergency assistance in times of crisis. Since 2021, we have massively scaled up our work to respond to the complex and growing needs in the country, reaching 1.2 million people in 2024 alone.

We remain committed to our vision of a peaceful and thriving Afghanistan - an Afghanistan where we no longer have to exist.
