Afghanaid’s Managing Director and Executive Team of Directors are responsible for shaping our organisational strategy and ensuring that we achieve our goals in the most sustainable and ethical way possible. Our Directors use their diverse skills, experience and background to reach effective decisions. They are guided by, and are accountable to our Board of Trustees.

Managing Director: Charles Davy

Charles has led Afghanaid since 2013 and has over 40 years experience in relief and development, in Africa, Europe and Asia. He has held roles ranging from technical specialist and trainer, Regional Director and CEO. Charles says, “I am truly proud to lead an organisation that has a long-standing commitment to working with marginalised people in some of the most remote and under-served areas. Afghanaid has a unique ability to foster the most trusting and authentic relationships with local Afghan communities and ordinary people, and we have earned great esteem for the quality of our work."    

Throughout his career, Charles has developed particular expertise in refugee resettlement, return and reintegration; management of emergency humanitarian responses in humanitarian and complex disasters; microfinance and livelihoods development; programme design and management as well as organisational development and leadership. He says, “I find it truly satisfying to share what I have learned and to coach, nurture and lead the Afghanaid team.”

Director, Programme Implementation and Quality: Abdul Rahman Tariq

Abdul Rahman has 20 years' experience in the aid and development sector working with non-governmental organisations. He has loyally served Afghanaid for the past 18 years, rising through the ranks while gaining experience and expertise. In his current role Abdul Rahman leads all Afghanaid’s field programmes and monitoring and evaluation team, ensuring a strong team of qualified managers deliver projects on-time and to the highest standards. Abdul Rahman says, “For me, it is a privilege to work for Afghanaid and perform such good and important work for the people of Afghanistan.”

Director, Finance and Operations: Ayub Khan

Ayub holds an MBA in Finance and is a qualified Cost and Management Accountant. He has more than 15 years professional experience in the financial sector and has been with Afghanaid for over 10 years. He is especially concerned with the transparency and accountability of the charity sector and has drafted and revised many of Afghanaid’s key policies, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and UK charity and Afghan NGO law. Ayub says, “What I love about Afghanaid is the importance we give to managing our resources, ensuring value for money and robust accounting practices. It means that at Afghanaid I can play a critical role in doing the best we can for our donors, our project participants and our organisation.”

Director, Programme Development and Resource Mobilisation Department: Zodiac Maslin-Hahn

Zodiac is a programme development specialist with a Master of Social Science degree in Peace and Conflict Research. She has worked in relief and development in several conflict-affected countries in project management, monitoring, and research roles. Zodiac has been with Afghanaid since 2015, and has led the development of projects for our institutional donors including FCDO, the EU, UN agencies, SDC, and the World Bank. She says, “It is a privilege to work with colleagues who are so dedicated to delivering high quality programmes. Afghanaid’s commitment to innovation, impact measurement, and learning enables our department to develop new projects that build on past work, reflect the particular needs of the communities in which we work, and adapt to the evolving context in Afghanistan."

Deputy Director, Human Resources: Mujtaba Nooristani

Mujtaba holds a BSc degree in Civil Engineering with 30 years working experience in the NGO sector. He has worked with Afghanaid since 2001 in Programme, Monitoring & Evaluation, Procurement, Administration and Human Resources. He has been a member of Afghanaid’s senior executive leadership team since 2012.

Deputy Director, Afghanistan Resilience Consortium: Guru Naik

Guru possesses an academic background in Agriculture and Business Management and over 35 years of work experience in International Development in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Afghanistan. During this period he worked in Agriculture development, Appropriate Technology, Rural Marketing, Microfinance, Early Childhood Development, Basic Education, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation. He also performed several roles as Technical Specialist, Team Leader, Livelihood Advisor, Program Director and Country Director. Guru joined Afghanaid in 2015 and since then has been managing the Afghanistan Resilience Consortium (ARC) – a consortium of four International NGOs led by Afghanaid, jointly implementing large projects on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Livelihood Promotion.
